MESSAGE FROM NFPA PRESIDENT
RUSS WETHERINGTON
The North Florida Procurement Association of NIGP has come a long way since our chartering in March 2005. Our organization is made up of many procurement professionals striving to improve their skills and gain respect from their peers.

By networking with your peers you can utilize the tools and experience of your peers and keep abreast of efficient ways to better perform your job. Our chapter members backgrounds represent all facets of procurement and public purchasing, federal, state, local and county government’s agencies, public schools, universities, fire & emergency, law enforcement, utilities, public health, and housing authorities. Networking can provide you with a wealth of information and insight into better ways of doing things.

One of our Chapter’s goals is to host NIGP educational classes to help our members get certified and help our other members stay on top of their profession and earn points for re-certification. To reward those members who actively participate in NFPA by attending the Chapter meetings and volunteering their time to serve on the Board, committees and the annual Expo they earn points. The NFPA chapter has established the NFPA/NIGP Scholarship fund. Annually the Chapter president will propose a scholarship budget and amount per scholarship based on the revenue generated from the annual Procurement Expo.

Scholarships shall be used in the same calendar year they are approved and are to be used toward NIGP classes, NIGP test fees, NIGP National forum, FAPPO annual conference or any other approved NIGP functions.

The success of the NFPA Chapter depends solely on our members volunteering their expertise and time to make the Chapter successful. No matter how big or how small piece of the pie you can take, whatever time you devote helps our organization become very successful. Please contact me or one of your Board members of NFPA for information on how to become a chapter volunteer or how to serve on the Board. If our members are active in the chapter, it means that our chapter is always growing by helping our members develop skills and knowledge in our purchasing profession. If you have not volunteered yet to be on a committee or the Board, please reconsider and think about doing so now. We need your help in making the NFPA Chapter #1 in NIGP.

It is my honor and privilege to serve as your President for 2009. Please remember, I am only a phone call or email away.

“Standing Tall in 2009”

Respectfully

Russ Wetherington, CPPB, CPCM, CPM
2009 NFPA/NIGP President
